The Bronx Economic Development Corporation (BXEDC) and Our Bronx (formerly the Northwest Bronx Community & Clergy Coalition) are proud to co-lead the creation of the first-ever Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the Bronx, supported by the U.S. Economic Development Administration within the Department of Commerce. This multi-year initiative aims to shape a bold, inclusive, and sustainable economic future for the Bronx by focusing on economic democracy, environmental sustainability, and shared wealth building.
The main components of the Bronx CEDS include:
A SWOT analysis of the Bronx economy (identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats).
A set of strategies and priority projects aimed at fostering inclusive economic resilience and growth.
A measurable framework to track outputs and outcomes over time.
Over the last year and a half, Our Bronx and BXEDC have co-led a sustained and historic collaboration across diverse Bronx institutions, building on five years of community-led planning for a better Bronx future that began in 2019. In 2025, we spent a year engaging the public, community and business leaders, experts, and elected officials through surveys, focus groups, public assemblies, and interviews. We have now gathered all of that data and insight and compiled it into a first draft of the Bronx’s first ever Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. As part of the process for certifying this plan with the federal government, we are sharing the draft publicly to get critical insights and feedback before the plan is finalized.
As a federally funded project, this CEDS has a public comment period of at least 30 days.
